This year we are proud to be celebrating our 30th year as Headway East Kent, from little acorns, do mighty oaks grow!

Throughout September our five branches have a different event planned to commemorate this amazing milestone so be sure to check out our website and Facebook page regularly.

Our Canterbury branch kicked off the Celebrations with a BBQ, music, fun and games.

.

Headway Folkestone hosted their first joint fundraiser and awareness day along with Age UK, Folkestone, Hythe & District Mencap, Kent Coast Volunteering-Folkestone & Hythe on Saturday, August 17th. All service providers are situated within the Marigold Centre.

The sun came out and it was a very well supported event as you can see from all the photos. Our thanks to our Folkestone Town Mayor Jackie Meade who officially opened the event, and on her birthday too! And for the wonderful entertainment from Duncan and the HeadStrong choir and Pat & Alan of Puppeteers in Motion. And last but by no means least special thanks to all those who came along and supported our event and the wonderful volunteers who gave their time to man the stalls.

For the latest news and information, be sure to check out the summer edition of our Headway East Kent newsletter, filled full of information on what has been happening so far this year and more forthcoming events throughout the rest of 2019!

Oh, how mighty oaks grow from little acorns!

On 25th May 2019, Folkestone Facilitators Paula McCormack and Nina Milton once again held their 8th Annual Gala Dinner in aid of Headway East Kent, an idea which Paula first had back in 2012 as a one-off event as a way of thanking one of our major supporters Face of Europe and The World.  An evening of class and entertainment where all our guests get the opportunity to enjoy fine dining and get their glad rags on.

We have had great support each year organising our Gala Dinner, and this year was certainly no different.  With many familiar faces as well as lots of new ones also, it was lovely to see the venue buzzing with over 100 guests in attendance.

With the generosity of many local businesses and individuals donating to our auction and raffle, and this year the added game of ‘Heads and Tails’, we are over the moon to announce the total we raised was……..£3,127.25.

Photographer and volunteer at our Canterbury branch Kevin Marlow of KVN Photography kindly donated his services to capture the magical moments of the evening, some of which you can see below.  If you wish to see the full album please be sure to click on the link below;

Folkestone Gala Dinner

Each year we like to ask a client to share their story with everyone on the night, this year we didn’t want to put any pressure on anyone to do this, but a very brave Folkestone client of ours put himself forward to share in his words his story and we would like to commend him and say how very proud of him we are – well done, Roger!

This just leaves us to say a huge thank you to everyone involved, who supported us and allowed us to host our Gala Dinner once again, and this just leaves us to say…SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!

On the 29th March, the Folkestone team organised and hosted their first ever Ladies night fundraising event and what an amazing night it turned out to be!

Over 60 lovely ladies attended the evening, and there were lots of items on offer with so many kind donations of new and pre-loved designer clothing and accessories with something to suit everyone’s taste, prosecco on arrival, table platters, dress auction and a quality raffle, the night exceeded everyone’s expectations, much to our delight.

Thank you so much to everyone who came, to the lovely ladies who modelled our auction items, and for all those who donated items and helped out, all of which helped make the night a HUGE success, so much so that we have already pencilled in a date for our next one!  So ladies, for those who would like to join us again, our next ladies night will be on Saturday 9th November, please contact the Folkestone team via email folkestone@headwayeastkent.org.uk for further details.

This just leaves us to announce the total raised….are you ready!? The Folkestone Ladies Night debut raised an amazing £1688.15!  We are very proud of how successful the night was and are extremely grateful to all those who played a part in helping make the night such a successful one…that just leaves us to say, see you next time!

On February 2nd 2019, after months of hard work and hours spent collecting items, PA to a Folkestone Headway client and supporter of our charity Zoe Broadley, organised her third Mammoth charity jumble sale, in aid of two local charities close to her heart.

The jumble sale was a huge success, with so much jumble and so many people coming along to see what was on offer.

The total amount raised was an amazing £1100, split between both ourselves here at Headway East Kent and another local charity Folkestone Mind.

A very special “thank you” has to go to Zoe Broadley for collecting & storing so much jumble over the past three months, as well as thanks to all those who volunteered their time setting up the stalls and helping out on the day.

What a fun time had by all at Headway Folkestone’s open day on Saturday 6th October 2018.

Roger and Brett, two of Folkestone Headway clients decided they wanted to show their appreciation at the support received from Headway East Kent by doing a sponsored head shave.  Amid much laughter from everyone on the day, we’d like to announce that an amazing £675 was raised.

We would all like to thank you both so much, and to Nathan & Jean Scotford of Cutting Edge Barbers Bouverie Road West. One the same day we also unveiled the day centres new plaque, in appreciation of the support from Face of Europe and the World, who’s support has been very much appreciated over the past 6yrs.

Well done to Roger and Brett and thank you ALL!
