We have been overwhelmed with the generosity of people in our local community recently with donations of their old smartphones, and for that we thank you.
Our next hurdle, however, is to be able to provide data plans to our clients we have been able to deliver the donated smartphones to, in order to keep connected via our virtual day centres.
We absolutely appreciate many will be having to tighten their purse strings during this current climate, but if you are able to make a donation of any spare change, we would be extremely grateful.
The health and well-being of our clients is our priority, and being able to minimise the feelings of isolation many of us will be experiencing during this period of uncertainty, will make a big difference.
If you are able and would like to help, please contact our Area Manager Jenny on E: jwalsh@headwayeastkent.org.uk or call on 07860 226682
Any donation, no matter how big or small will help with this.
Thank you

Press Release – Please read
For over 30 years Headway East Kent has provided Day Centres in East Kent for people with an acquired brain injury. These are safe places for our clients and now, as we watch the COVID 19 events unfold across the UK, we need to take further measures in order to protect our clients. After careful consideration, we have taken the decision to close all 5 Day Centre as of Monday 23 March 2020. This is a decision we have not taken lightly and we do so with great sadness, however, the need to keep everyone safe means we have no other choice.
As you are aware this is a dynamic situation with events changing day to day. We will keep abreast of all new Government announcements and we will reopen the Day Centres when the risk posed to our clients, staff, volunteers and students has been significantly reduced.
If you need any support you can call our Day Centres from Tuesday to Friday between 9 am and 4 pm, where one of the centre facilitators will be happy to talk to you. If you have any out of hours’ enquiries or concerns, please call our Area Manager, Jenny Walsh on 07860 226682 or email jwalsh@headwayeastkent.org.uk.
We thank you for your understanding at this difficult time.

As we are sure many of you are aware, measures are being taken in all businesses and organisations to minimise the risk of the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
The health and well-being of our service users, carers, staff and volunteers is paramount and many do fall into the vulnerable category, and so we want to minimise the risk where possible of any chance of the virus being brought into our day centres.
We are of course taking every measure possible to keep the risk to a minimum, following official guidelines we have currently been provided with. It is, for this reason, we feel it appropriate to postpone all public fundraising events, client outings and any public speakers/outside visitors coming to our day centres with immediate effect until we have received official confirmation that the virus risk has been minimised and are able to return to business as usual. This includes the GALA DINNER, AFTERNOON TEA and AGM. For those who have made payments for the Gala dinner or afternoon tea could you kindly contact us via email at folkestone@headwayeastkent.org.uk
We thank you for your understanding and will update you as and when we know more and are able to reschedule our events.
Many thanks

On the weekend of 28th & 29th September, Amy Kerley (Canterbury Facilitator), Kevin Marlow and Charlie Welch, (both dedicated volunteers also at Canterbury) undertook, and successfully completed an Olympic length Triathlon! It apparently all started several months ago as just an idea, when as a group, they were discussing something they could do as a team that would challenge them and allow them to work to their strengths. It was thanks to one Canterbury clients suggestion, that they thought it would be a great idea for for the trio to take part in a team triathlon. This wasn’t to be any ordinary triathlon though, it would have to be an Olympic length triathlon!! Broken down it works out as a 40km (24.8 miles) bike ride, 10km (6.2 miles) run and a 1.5km (1 mile) swim. Thinking that this seemed like a great idea, between the three of them they made the decision that Kevin would complete the bike ride, Amy was to undertake the swimming portion of the challenge and Charlie opted to tackle the run. As we are sure you are aware on the weekend in question the weather was somewhat unpleasant with strong winds and rain. So, as we all know, safety comes first. Kevin kept a close eye on the weather forecast and made the decision to complete his cycling part of the triathlon on the Saturday, making sure he was there to cheer on his team members the following day. On Sunday 29th September 2019 the trio successfully completed their Olympic Length Triathlon, and between them raised approximately £700 thanks to all their wonderful supporters, friends and family. Fantastic achievement well done team Tri Tri Tri Again!!! Tri Tri Tri Again - Small

Continuing with the birthday celebrations, Headway Folkestone organised an afternoon tea at The Grand to commemorate the amazing milestone of 30 years Headway East Kent has been able to provide an invaluable service to adults who have an acquired brain injury as well at to their families and carers.
In attendance, we had 90+ guests including supporters, clients and family members, volunteers, staff, and also Hythe Town local dignitaries.
Guests were entertained with music from local artists Peter and Nick with dancing and a game of heads and tails to finish off the afternoon. An enjoyable afternoon was had by all from the feedback we received.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and to those who allowed us to be able to organise this special event, many thanks to The Grand for being fantastic hosts and to Peter and Nick for the enjoyable entertainment… here’s to many more years ahead of us! Cheers everyone!
