Yesterday evening Catherine, Folkestone client rep and Gareth, one of our devoted Folkestone volunteers joined Liz- Folkestone Facilitator, at the Presentation Evening for the class winners of the Venetian Fete held in August of this year.

For those that are not aware…Headway Folkestone gained First Place in the class “Best Illuminated Float”!

Here are a few shots taken at the presentation and a little photo of our float on the night.

On Wednesday 25th October at Headway House Folkestone, David Harvey and Bill Newns, from Folkestone Lions Club came to the Day Centre and presented us with a cheque for £600.

This was money raised through the sale of a yearly cryptic quiz sheet, which is written and produced by Bill. It is something the clients now also look forward to joining in each year, testing their skills and knowledge.

We would like to say a huge “thank you” to David, Bill and all the Folkestone Lions for this very generous donation and continued support throughout the years.

When new client rep Catherine joined the Folkestone day centre, she took it upon herself to begin organising social events for her fellow clients, which is no easy task.

We all at some stage in our life, have organised nights out, parties, events etc, and all know how stressful and what a full on job it can be.  So now imagine that, coupled with having sustained a brain injury causing you fatigue, brain fog, and other cognitive issues causing the inability to handle certain tasks expected of you that would ordinarily not cause you as an individual much of an issue.

We think our clients do an amazing job coping with day to day life following their brain injuries, and to organise an event for their fellow Headway East Kent members from scratch, without any assistance is definitely worth sharing with you all.

Our Headway members prove that life doesn’t have to end following a brain injury, and here are some photos of their night out at the weekend to show that.

Thanks to the idea and organisational skills of one client at Folkestone, a group of their fellow clients enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea whilst enjoying the sights on the Tenderden Steam Railway.

Being served with a selection of sandwiches, scones, tea and even miniature cakes afterwards, the clients thoroughly enjoyed an afternoon out dining in style on the old Tenterden Steam train.

From all the staff, volunteers and fellow clients…Thank you Darren!

On Saturday 2nd September, Headway House Folkestone once again held their annual Sponsored Walk along The Leas in Folkestone.

Record numbers of clients, family, carers, volunteers and staff members came together to raise awareness in their town.

After a gloomy start, the clouds disappeared and the sun shone down on all the walkers making for a beautiful afternoon walk.

The total sponsor money amount is yet to be counted up due to monies still being donated, but check out our facebook page for an update on the total soon!

Well done Chris, raising an incredible £258!

Once again our Folkestone branch entered in to the Hythe Venetian Fete with their ‘Brain’ inspired float theme, with excellent results!

With the help and involvement of local artist Helen Easter ‘Brian the Brain’ was brought to life, after many weeks of work and preparation, over time from staff, and our amazing volunteers, clients also getting involved, this really was our most successful float to date.

Having entered for the third year since 2013 this years float brought amazing results for the Folkestone branch, receiving a 2nd place in their float class and WINNERS over all in the illuminated run!

Well done everyone!

Yesterday some of the Thursday group at our Folkestone branch were invited along to a new cafe ’13cc’ that has recently started trading in Rendezvous Street, Folkestone, to sample some of their home made cakes.  With a group of 18 people co owners Zoe Bartlett and Suzanne Crowther certainly had their work cut out for them!
Headway East Kent as a whole feel it is very beneficial to be able to connect with and support local businesses within their communities, building business relationships is key in helping both businsses thrive and raising awareness for head injuries..
“It was really lovely, thank you soooo much xx” – Headway client comment on Facebook.

After 6 years of organising our annual Gala Dinner here at Folkestone, we feel confident in saying this was our most popular, and most successful one to date.

With 136 guests in attendance on the night, from far and wide, we enjoyed a night of good food, speeches from those living first hand with the effects of a brain injury, as well as a quality auction with prizes from Manchester Utd Football team kindly donating a hand signed football, local artist Terry Anthony, Virgin Experiences, as well as resident client artists at Folkestone.  A quality raffle with many local businesses kindly donating prizes, and not forgetting the end of night disco provided by SuperSounds who also provided a fun photobooth for all the guests to let their hair down and enjoy.

With the incredible support and generosity of everyone on the night we raised an amazing £3,017.60!

We would like to also thank Face of Europe and the World for their continued support and never failing to amaze us an render us speechless with the amount they all raise.

Thank you everyone who joined us, and supported our event, we hope you can all join us next year!

Today some of the Folkestone group visited Dawn and Laura of the My Gallery Dover smART project and participated in an art session, creating some wonderful landscape pieces and their own Picasso style drawings.

Dover smART Project are also a local registered charity providing a community based art service to others in and around the Dover area of Kent.

On Tuesday, Valentines Day at Folkestone we welcomed the Dover group for a Valentines themed get-together, and a little 50th birthday surprise for Barry our minibus driver nice to see you all, a fun time had by all!
