Folkestone Group Enjoys Confidence-Boosting Visit to Costa Coffee

Date: 5th February 2026

Members of Headway Kent’s Folkestone group enjoyed a meaningful and confidence-building outing this week with a visit to Costa Coffee in Folkestone town centre. While a simple trip for many, experiences like this can be a significant step forward for people living with the effects of an acquired brain injury.

At Headway Kent, our work goes beyond providing essential cognitive reablement services. We also focus on helping people rebuild life skills, confidence, and independence, supporting members to feel included in everyday activities that many people take for granted.

For some members, visiting a café can feel overwhelming. Busy environments, multiple choices, and fear of making a mistake can create real barriers. One member shared how important the outing was to them:

“This is so lovely. I haven’t been in a café for years. I haven’t had the nerve in case I got it wrong – there are so many choices and I just want a coffee!”

Outings like this highlight the importance of safe, supportive spaces where members can practise real-world skills without fear of judgement. Whether it’s ordering a drink, handling money, or simply spending time in a social setting, these moments help rebuild confidence step by step.

Headway Kent provides a welcoming environment where members are encouraged to be themselves, relearn everyday skills, and try new or daunting experiences with reassurance and support. Our groups offer the courage to take those first steps back into the community, knowing that mistakes are part of learning – and never something to be embarrassed about.

This visit to Costa Coffee may seem small, but for our members it represents progress, independence, and the joy of feeling part of everyday life again.
