We are delighted to celebrate an important milestone for Sam, a social work student from Canterbury Christ Church University, who has now reached the halfway point of her 70-day placement at Headway.
During her placement, Sam has gained valuable, hands-on experience working alongside people affected by brain injury, deepening her understanding of how brain injury can impact not only the individual but also their families and support networks. This experience has allowed Sam to successfully apply the theoretical knowledge from her social work degree to real-life practice, strengthening her skills and confidence as a future social worker.
Through her time at Headway, Sam has developed a deeper insight into the role of social care in supporting brain injury survivors, highlighting the importance of holistic, person-centred support within adult social care services. Her placement has also challenged her preconceptions about her future career path and broadened her professional interests.
At Headway, we truly value our students and the strong links we have with local universities, including Canterbury Christ Church University. Placements play a vital role in shaping compassionate, informed professionals, and we are proud to support students as they grow and learn within our services.
Reflecting on her placement so far, Sam shared:
“I am currently halfway through my 70-day placement at Headway as a social work student, and the experience so far has been incredibly rewarding. When I began my social work degree, I was certain I wanted to work within children’s services and had completely overlooked adult social care. However, my placement at Headway has completely changed my perspective.
The staff team are some of the most caring and dedicated people I have met. They consistently go above and beyond to support the clients, while also making me feel extremely welcome and supported as a student. I have met so many fantastic individuals who attend Headway, who have not only welcomed me warmly but have also been incredibly honest and brave in sharing their stories.
Being at Headway truly feels like being part of a family, and that is exactly how I have been made to feel, even in such a short space of time. Thank you to everyone at Headway for such a positive and meaningful experience.”
We are incredibly grateful to Sam for her enthusiasm, compassion, and commitment, and we look forward to supporting her throughout the remainder of her placement.
